Provence is a legend and a dream destination for many. Les Baux de Provence was a powerful city and one of the most impressive and spectacular fortress of Provence. Perched on top of a rock with abrupt cliffs, it was known as impregnable and played a major role in history. Unfortunately after siding with the Protestants, in 1600 the inhabitants were forced to dismantle the majestic castle.
It is impossible to mention all the remarkable places of Provence, but a few are especially unique, like Avignon and its grandiose Palace of the Popes, or Saint-Remy de Provence where Nostradamus was born, a lively picturesque village with a popular Wednesday farmers’ market.
Another admirable city is Uzes, a medieval city and the oldest Duchy of France with its renowned “place du marche” surrounded with arcades, its historic castle still owned today by the Duke of Uzes , and its cathedral overlooking the valley down below.
